Luke Newell ’19: One Scientific & Culinary Gnomie

Posts! / Tuesday: A Gnotable Gnomie!

Hello – I’m Luke, and I’m a junior in Dport living in entryway H, which means I don’t have basement access for the third year in a row. I’m from Chicago, so it’ll be colder when I go home for break.

After changing my mind 4 times, I finally settled on neuroscience as my major at the end of last year. Currently I work in Arielle Baskin-Sommers’ psych lab, which studies psychopathy and other externalizing behaviors (people mess with other people/society sometimes). I spend my time interviewing/diagnosing them before they actually take whatever study we want them to so we know which factors in their life might be influencing their behavior on our tasks.

I’ve also changed my mind this year about how I want to spend my time outside of classes/the lab, so joined the ballroom dance team and started a baking club with Neil Zheng. We make tasty things in the Davenport kitchen generally every other Friday, so feel free to come by and bake/eat with us!
